Gear change problem

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by vdub brvs, Mar 16, 2013.

  1. Clutch is good, going up the gears are good. The problem starts when i come down the gears,
you can choose to block change 4-2 or 4-3-2-1 it all depends on how fast or slow you want to
stop. The only problem is i can not get into seconed gear when comming down the gears. I have to pull into 1st then it goes straight into 2nd. If i try and go into 2nd from 4th or 3rd it will not go into gear. it will go into 2nd from 1st. Do i just need shift rod bush's, rod coupler, bellows or does anyone have
any other ideas. Am going to Tekenders in April, can this be a job done there. All advise will be read
    and is welcome,many thanks in advance. . . . . . . . . .. .

  2. We had a similarish problem - couldn't get it out of 2nd into 3rd or 4th (at 11.00pm on way to catch night ferry - typical) Found the culprit was the lock screw on the underside of the shift rod which was loose causing the shift rod to wobble about and not engage - tightened it up and all was fine....you may have already checked it out but if not worth a look.

  3. Change your bushes anyway, then adjust the stop plate at the base of the gear lever.
