Hi all I am a new member of the website and 6 months ago bought an 1972 VW bay window needing some work. One of the biggest issues I have is that my Bay 'Miss Elly' keeps slipping out of first gear, she drives perfectly otherwise. I am just trying to find out what could be causing the problem. Any Help would be much appreciated.
Hi, a post like this is best put up in the mech tech area. The most common culprit of this in order to simplify some of the checks, is to make sure the gear stick is properly adjusted. You spend very little time in 1st, are you keeping your hand on the stick when shifting?
Also, what work has been done? Any to the engine or gearbox/gear shift? Is it a stock or aftermarket shifter?
