My van is going to the bodyshop soon so I'm trying to drill any holes required before it goes. My question is what's required for storing a gas bottle within one of the van cupboards? It originally had a tube welded through the floor approximately 25mm dia open to atmosphere, it was rusting away around the edge so has been cut out and floor replaced. If I replicate this is it sufficient this day in age or should I be going down a different route?
It just needs a hole on the bottom, as gas is heavier than air, so will sink, and it needs to leave the bus.
If it was a boat it would be - I found more guidance than regulations when I looked. I figure any small amount of gas which doesn't drain would disappear through the bottom of the sliding door
As Bern says, loads of guidance but no specific regulations regarding installs of gas in campers. Caravans have a gas drop hole in the floor under every gas appliance, so I guess that's as good a place to start as any. Boats have to have specific lockers coz' any leaking gas could settle in the bilges & explode! I put a permanent Gas-It 11l bottle in the bus. As it stays in situ & fills from the outside, it sits in a sealed locker with a vent underneath to the outside world. The cabinets were then built around the locker. For the drop vent I used a spare 2 piece Propex air vent & screwed it through the base of the locker & bus floor & lathered it in sealer. The front comes off the locker in case I ever need to get to the bottle for servicing etc. Probably a bit OTT but thats me....
