I was talking to a friend about filler necks. Having had trouble with the last one l bought from heritage that went back and hearing that others have also experienced the same problem with me in that it is too short both ends he suggested the kind of rubber filler neck they fit to custom cars and kit cars. It seems a perfect solution to an otherwise expensive pipe from VWH that doesn't fit without a tug and a pull.

It has a thick spiral sprung wire strenthener that makes it impossible to clamp I don't think it's intended to be clamped - more for your petrol in at the top stylee, than in at the side and sloshing about at the join.

Trouble is I'm so fed up with the part from VWH being too short in length at both ends that l am looking for alternatives. I'm not trying to save money but l did cough quite hard when l saw the price of the pipe they sell. If it fitted well I'd have no problem paying that money.

l never had a problem when l fitted one to mine or the Wiseman wagon but when l went to fit it another to a customers bus ordered at a different time to when l ordered the 2 for the previously mentioned buses it appeared to be short. l have told VWH this. After this l have learned from others that they too have experienced it being short too. It's just 'not' long enough in my mind to offer a suitable secure grip around the filler necks of both the metal filler pipe and fuel tank. It really wouldn't hurt them to have specified it an inch longer if l am honest.

    To short

  12. Is it petrol resistant though? It says it's suitable for transfer of water and antifreeze resistant, but fuel?

  13. I need to replace this part on mine as its leaking badly when i go around bends

The cost of the part makes my eyes water and now hearing its also shorter than the original displeases me even more

I wonder if you could send an old one to a silicone hose manafacturer and see if they make any hoses to the same dimensions or if they could do a limited run for a group buy

  14. Maybe it's time TLB went into parts manufacturing

i looked into this pretty extensively a while back when heritage didnt have the hoses in stock, demon tweeks, hyphose pirtec etc all seel a suitable hose in straight lengths and demon tweeks sell with bends but its all around the same price in the end, perhaps a better solution is a short length of hose with a steel bend, which would reduce the amount of fuel to hose contact and incerease its life span.

i have a lenght or marine hose 52 mm internal with the steel spiral you can clamp it but not reduce the internal diameter very much by doing so, it requires the correct clamps ( quite expensive) its more to hold the pipe in place than to clamp a seal, i have a metre of it in the garage and i fitted it to an prototype bay with a short straight hose, took a couple of hours to get it on, but it is marine grade fuel pipe, flame retardent, fuel resistant etc. A2 is the code. you can most likely get the exact size but the price in creases per mm on the diameter almost exponentially. but the so called proper stuff from heritage did look a bit poo, no number on it to prove its fuel pipe etc, could be garden hose for all i know wil find out in 6 months i suppose.

  16. Just replaced mine this weekend. Took the view that if you guys wernt 100% onboard with the Heritage offering then id go a different way and keep my hard earned in my pocket.

    I used this http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/product/Budget_Flexible_Fuel_Fill_Hose_57mm_ID_x_500mm_long_FFHO6

If anything it a wee bit too long. Did it with the engine in (mines a 1Y Diesel) but I have a massive engine hatch.

Used some dye and a UV torch to test for leaks. Found smaller breather pipe is also leaking :(

Id say totally doable with the aircooled engine out though.

Must check the above link out when i get to a computer.

  18. I used a steel reinforced, layered pipe for boats and racing cars, and had no problems clamping it down.

it was anything but "budget", but i've had no leaks or smells since.
