fuel sender seal

  1. hi all, can anyone help with this please.... for the past couple of weeks i have been over powered with the smell of fuel in the van, this is not constant though. After monitoring my driving and the amount of fuel in the tank when it smells it has become more obvious that when i turn a sharp right bend is the only time it smells. I have just checked the part you can see in the picture and what appeared to be a rubber seal with a long piece that fits over the tank down pipe???? not sure what its called, is perished and under the battery tray stinks of fuel therefore can only assume its leaking there when turning??? has onyone had this problem???? also where can i get that rubber seal as the one on JK site doesn't appear to have it...

would appreciate any help please. i drove 40 miles today and really took my time when turning corners and no petrol smell..

  2. just brought a new one from vw heritage, i bet the rest of all your fuel lines will need changing if that is anything to go by. Im just in the process of sorting mine

  3. thanks mate...i'll check those. I'll check vw heritage no. thanks

  4. oh man, they are out of stock. that is the part though. was it easy to fit @robcod

havent fitted it yet but i have the engine and tank out at the minute so should be easy. If you want to just replace that bit you will need to undo the screws around the fuel filler cap and also pop the round panel in the engine bay to the side under the filler and you will get access. I think it may be hard to do though. Easier with engine out and rear fire wall out as you can also then change all the other hoses. Better to be safe :(

  6. Cheers dude. I'll buy that one now and give it a go.... keep you posted.

  7. If you are taking the engine out then get the tank out, replace all the hoses. don't forget the often forgotten sections of breather hose tucked up behind the spare wheel tub.

  8. absoultely, theres some good posts on here about it. Im actually just sealing the inside of my tank as well as it was showing signs of rust. Another 40 odd quid gone but hopefully the tanks sorted for a long while

  9. Thanks mate. never took an engine out so this maybe very ambitious for me. think i'll deffo be a techenders next year:thinking:

  10. i hadnt until a couple weeks ago. Couldnt believe how easy it was. However be warned once you take it out youll end up doing a full resto before you know it.
