fuel pump

  1. Took the fuel pump off this evening just to check a few things plus i have got another comeing tomorrow complete with a new push rod ,
I noticed that on the pedestal in the recessed bits of the pedestal there was a liquid which smelt very much like petrol , should there be any form of liquid fuel or oil in the recessed bits of the pedestal ?

If no might be why my engine when it is running is getting very hot and the oil did smell a little bit like it had fuel in it although when i had a sniff the engine had been running so was hot .

Also just want to check that the rod hasnt been put in upside down , does the curved "pointy " end go into the case , and the flat end goes against the pump ?

    thanks :)

pointy end down, it shouldn't leak but not to worry - you have a new one. :)

  3. Mine is always wet around the pedestal. Is it a major worry ? and an easy fix?

  4. Have you spoken to your GP?

  5. changing the oil as there is fuel in it , do you recon i need to run it for a short while , dump it , then fresh oil and run for a bit , then dump that and refill with fresh again ?

or will just dumping the old oil and a refill with fresh be ok ?

I'd just dump and fill TBH. Let it drain and leave the filler cap off for an hour or two before refilling?
