Hiya, Has anyone got a fuel gauge for a 78 bay?.The sender unit has been changed but will still only read 3/4 when full. Thanks Ian
What about this, i know it says up to 72 but aren't they all the same? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-TYPE-2-T2-EARLY-BAY-CAMPER-VAN-DASH-INSTRUMENT-CLUSTER-VDO-FUEL-GAUGE-/130632470603?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e6a4d504b
im not sure it would work, the earlies had different senders and different bits on the back of the dash to steady the signal
If the needle moves all the way "down" when the bus is turned off, I'd go with bending the arm. Seems to me that even if you changed the gauge it would still read the same ? if it's only getting at much signal strength back to the gauge
does anyone know the voltage range(presume it works on voltage not current)then can take it out and inject the correct voltage into it to check the dails full range. Then i know if it is the dial or sender. Thanks Ian
Very late reply on this. Had the same on mine and after getting multiple replacement gauges and finding them all doing the same, I discovered that the wire from the sender on the tank to the gauge on the dash has developed about 20 ohms of reistance over the years, thus never letting the gauge go much above half. Running a new wire from sender to gauge instantly fixed the problem!
What Nick says - the old wire is adding resistance. 9/10 busses only read 3/4 when full. On a more +ve note, you'll never run out of petrol.
