Fuel gauge

  1. It's always one thing after another! Finally got the Rev counter working correctly and whilst doing so I noticed one of the wire's behind the dash was loose, so fitted a new spade connector.

Now may I just add here, my fuel gauge has worked perfectly.

Refitted the wire and now the fuel gauge shows 3/4 tank, when I only have 1/4!

    See attached. I'm stumped.

It shows just over a 1/4 on your pic???
Those wires look like they might be earthing...

  3. Is the brown/black wire shorting on the case? What's that odd, half-a-crimp thing?

  4. Zed, the last one is a video.

Snotty, that is a half crimp thing. It's usually taped up but I unwrapped it when I was rewiring it.

Is it possible the new crimp is on top of cable insulation?

  7. Even with the half crimp taped up I show full. Does that mean something is earthing or a sender issue?

The terminals on the gauge are a bit close to the metal turn them around so they are on the cardboard

  9. If that's correct, and I have no reason to doubt it, why has no one ever mentioned it before?

I just checked the pics I took when my dash was off, and I also have the little black thingy. So I may give that I try, as I am also having problems with incorrect gauge readings after fitting a new sender. I did test it outside the tank before fitting, and the needle when right up and right down at the appropriate times.

It would be very interesting to hear if anyone else has made this discovery.

  10. No. Just a bad angle.

I would still bend that red wire up a bit
Then i would remake the new terminal as that's all you have done
As its reading higher that's a sign of a bit of a short somewhere
I also notice the gauge jumps when switched on, this is normally a case that the sender is wearing out

  12. Oh for gods sake, don't say that!
