Fuel gauge wiring is this right?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Ryanvdub, Jun 23, 2016.

  1. i dont have a working fuel gauge. And i can see the previous owner has cut a dodgy hole over the tank sender to get access. however before i start messing around i wanna get someone to confirm the wires are in the correct place on the back of the dash?

  2. Its the same as mine . But mine doesn't work either !!! I have a book and pencil, fill up at approx 150 miles . Never run out yet .

  3. If the wiring is rigt then thats great. Have ordered new gauge and resistor for heritage hopefully i think its the resistor that nackered as it doesnt get warm when i turn ignition on.!!!

  4. I have replaced all the components apart from the gauge , still using the pad and pencil . Good luck

I think your black and brown wire are the wrong way around, I will check later

Looks wrong to me, the black and red are both live, put the brown/ white to the fuel guage, the black to the other end of the voltage stabiliser

As I recall your brown wire if original should have faint hoops on it

  8. i did a continuity test and the brown wire goes to the fuel sender on the tank. are we saying i need to swap the brown and black wires over?

Yes , check the black is live

  10. Yes - Black and brown are the wrong way round - the sender is in the earth circuit (after the stabiliser which is fed from the black 12v + through the gauge)

  11. also make sure the stabiliser is "grounded" well on the back of the instruments.

Let us know if it works
@alpha981 is right, my mate was testing his after repair but thought the bolt just secured it so while testing left it dangling, it then didnt work.
