Fuel cap keys?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by redbullfan, Jan 18, 2019.

  1. Anybody know if the locking fuel caps that came originally with T2’s were the same as the keys for the ignition? Mine came with (I’m assuming) an aftermarket one with a much stubbier key. I’m planning to do all my locks using dubkeys and I’d love to be able to have only 1 key for all locks on the van.

  3. Unlikely the fuel caps had VW-style locks.

  4. No, it was a seperate key, not until the T25's did they use the ignition key.

Different keys so you can leave the ignition on while topping up the petrol. ..

  6. I guess I can live with 2 keys, better than the Jailers set I got when buying my van

    Day

I have a door key, ignition key, petrol cap key, boot lock key and steering lock key.

Then there's 2 keys to get into the garage!

Mines a original locking one but I have no key any ideas if I can get a key for it.

  10. Drop an email to Dave at Dubkeys. He might know.

  11. I've got a drivers door key, a passenger door key, an ignition key, an engine bay key and a fuel cap key.
I've got no side door key so that relies on the old "reach around"

I've been considering suiting the keys but the cost seems excessive unless I've missed something.

  12. Deopends what price you put on your sanity ;)

Of course, some of us have central locking

You can do most of them yourself for nothing more than a bit of time.

  15. I've spoken with dubkeys.com, as I don't know if the locks are aftermarket etc (they probably are with my previously butchered vans) it's probably not possible, but I'll get around to it. It's a cost issue, currently, everything is "functional" so that will do for now.

You can do it yourself for free (if they’re original).

  17. Blue van may be original (and has an original ignition key at least) but I doubt it, pink van has been badly looked after previously and no original ignition key, no chance they are original.

Expecting the blue van back on the road on the 1st of Feb since October or something though, which is utterly pointless, but hey ho
