Front Windscreen tinted green

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Northern Soulie, Jan 19, 2012.

  1. Hi does anyone know of a green tinted windscreen for a bay as per US spec for sale; or could suggest somewhere i might be able to get one?

Need it as soon as really so i can finish off the restoration of my Riviera.

    Cheers Kev.

  2. When i contacted a windscreen suppliers in Bury, they asked me if i wanted clear or tinited. so they are available in the UK. not sure if the tint was green or grey though.

Not much help but worth a try. I ended up fitting the origonal one as the cash began to run out.

I know nothing about them so this is just heresay but a mate of mines has a 79 us import with one which has a slight crack and he said, having looked for one, that they are rare??? That could be untrue.

Autoglass charged me £70.00 inc fitting on a next day delivery!

I seem to recall Bettybay off here sourced one from somewhere (maybe worth pm ing him)

  9. Danbury in Yate/bristol sell them when they do the heated screen conversion. £60 I think but have a google. Couldn't tell you if they are tinted or clear though

Most glass places have the spec and patterns to make virtually any glass. RAC had one for my 78 Peugeot 504. He wasn't able to fit it but that's another story!!!!

Shop around and see what you can find. I think someone was selling bay windscreens for

i'm having my screen and rear refitted with new seals tomorrow, they (auto windscreens) stock the glass new so if it breaks i'm not bothered, strangely the screen is listed as a vw clipper.....anyone heard that one? is the new brazillian bay window the same size?

  13. I thought a Clipper was a golf convertible? it does sound like at £70ish for a screen fitted its not worth the bother of getting one and doing it yourself!

The clipper was a name used in the States for about one year in 1968 and was the title of the microbus. Pan Am tried to sue Volkswagen because they used the name on their planes but it did stick.

Clipper was used again by VW for the later mk1 Golf convertibles.
