Front side lights and dash light up when brake pedal pressed!

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by mattw, Mar 7, 2017.

  1. Hi all, got the van out of the garage for the first time in about 5 months. No work has been done to it and it was all fine when parked up in autumn last year.

Now when I brake, the front side lights and dash light up at the same time! Anyone got an idea where to start my search for the electrical problem?!

  4. I had this with a wrong bulb fitted

  5. I think water can do similar trickery :)

  6. I cant remember what bay brake bulbs are but if its shared with the side light , twin element and you put a single pin in it will do this.

  7. Hi
Usual culprit blown stop tail bulb,or as mentioned wrong bulb fitted not often down to a bad earth.
When bulb "blows" broken filament falls on to its supports joining stoplights to tail, lights giving your symptoms .

  8. Thanks for the replies guys. Not changed any bulbs recently but will check out the brake lights to see if either has blown!

  9. Thought I'd update this as I had a chance to check out the problem this eve.

The culprit was the dodgy connections behind one of the tail / stop bulbs. Cleaned them up and bent them back and all working correctly!

    Thanks for the help all

  10. Looks like you need to take the stop and tail lamps out one at a time and see if the problem goes!
