Front lights issue

  1. Can anyone help me out?

    side lights working fine
Dip and main beam work with ignition on but as soon as the engine is running they don’t??
They were working last time I used them, a few months back, but discovered this evening that they aren’t now!

This is a strange one. As the only difference up fromt between engine running and just ignition on is a few volts higher battery supply, slightly more current drawn by the lights.
The possibilities are really down to a dodgy contact - maybe a fuse that gets shaken loose by the vibration of the engine, or the headlight switch has a burned contact.

I would inspect all your fuses- you might find the headlamp fuse has "sagged" and half melted( plastic cheap rubbish replacements...always swap fuse metal strip off a plastic fuse onto an OG ceramic fuse if you can)
Or just rotating the fuse in the holder wipes corrosion off the end.
Try wiggling the headlamp switch too..

Are your tail lights doing the same

  4. It was dark last night, I’ll have a look when I’m back from work today. I did look at fuses with torch, all seemed fine, and I span them all in case of dodgy contact. Thinking I’ll look at earths and the relay too. The fact they work perfectly when key is turned to ignition on is what’s baffling me.

Headlights do not work when the ignition is off. Only when its on. Sidelights only when the ignition is off...
