http://m.screwfix.com/p/timber-frame-breather-foil-1350mm-x-25m/37037?filtered=true Hi looking at membranes for the front doors under the door cards Any ideas/tips am considering above as it offers some insulation as well Obviously won't be buying the roll I'll borrow some from site
For the membrane you could use some plastic from a roll for carpet, you'd have to cut it to shape etc. Not sure what you could use as insulation though.
Looks like good stuff. It's waterproof which is what you need. It may be too thick though. I'd "borrow" some and try it out. Nothing to lose.
The og stuff and what you'll see in cars today is very thin tough film. I use thickish polythene off the roll at the garden centre. Cut it roughly right but too big, stick it to the door then trim with scissors. Originally, along with the rubber card clip bungs, this made a seal just stuck over the entire door card area, but it's accepted best practice now to tuck the bottom in. If you have speakers in the doors you need to build in a bag bit to protect them, wires up from under.
Don't joke, I've got a pair of white 6/7 inch waterproof marine speakers that where up in that roof, going to put them in my new doors
For cheap and cheerful, buy some rubble bags (really heavy duty bin bags) from your local supermercado.......cut them open on one long side and the bottom and then trim to shape and secure with gaffer tape........sorted for about £2 + gaffer tape which most people have a roll of laying about already lol
Modern Volkswagen Group cars have a moulded foam material that's about 1-1.5mm thick as the membrane. It's waterproof and it provides a bit of insulation. How do I know? I've had to strip down a number of doors from VAG cars (Golf, Polo, Ibiza) because the electric windows and regulators VW puts into them are Shi-ite. Not sure you'd ever be able to get any for using yourself.
It's not unlike the stuff you buy on a roll at B & Q as carpet underlay. The approved sealant is best to stick to door - failing that the bitumen based stuff you use for gutters is very cheap and works (not silicone). Regarding speakers - the water hits the speaker and runs down it into your card based door card - that's why you need to seal them at the membrane.
so with my tape player and your under water speakers that sound like you have a sock in your mouth were ready to rock!
If you lived closer I'd offer to help. I've stripped down so many doors from these modern VWs that I could almost do them in my sleep now.......
Ha ha, i can't bring myself to take that tape player out of the box and fit it because it wont be new old stock 70,s anymore Going to look for another one next year Edit:::::: i thought you said my tape player, the one I've left in a box, this post is prob nonsense
