Front door lock mechanism - removal/installation

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by threecountiesdubber, Nov 22, 2011.

  1. Has anyone ever done this (successfully)?

I had to remove a mechanism from a door a couple of weeks ago and it was a 5od of a job (resulting it many scratches on the inner skin of the door).

If VW managed to install them without scratching the paint, there must be a foolproof way of removing them.

Anyone out there that can help??

  2. Assume you mean the whole lock assembly?

Door panel/membrane off, unclip the horizontal link rod, unscrew the pushbutton, undo the two screws and carefully lower then jiggle it out. They do come out (and go back in) if you get them at the right angle. Can be b*ggers, tho'

Push the latch fulley closed, push latch through hole then lock straight down. They literally fall out when you get it right.

I can still juggle for 1/2 hour sometimes then I'm doing exactly the same and it falls out.
