Fridge recommendations

  1. Looking at getting a new fridge to run off 12v and 240v not gas. Needs to be as quiet as possible any recommendations gratefully received.

  2. Ditto that.

  3. We fit and have one in our van and the waeco's are by far the best if you don't want to run gas, they use hardly any electric and if one 240 just get a small c-tek to charge the L-battery.

  4. +1 for waeco, I've gone 4 days running the fridge and lights and charging phones without starting the engine on a 120Ah LB and it was still on 12.3v
I got the insulating cover for mine to make it even more efficient, its very quiet, but you can hear it, if that bothers you you can slide the thermostat so it wont start up at night then put it back to normal in the morning (I dont find it necessary though), everything will still be icy cold in the morning.

If you do get one take care of the wiring, I used a long bit of 10 or 15A wire so I could put it in the awning, but I was getting too much voltage drop across it and the compressor wouldn't start up and showed an error. The compressor takes a high surge of current when it starts up and quickly falls back to 2.5-3A. I used fatter wire and it solved the problem.

edit: some waecos are 12v only, mine is, I have a charger/inverter installed so while I have mains available it keeps the LB topped up and the fridge running.

  5. in the manual there is a chart to length of run to thickness of wire needed.

  6. ^^^ As usual I didn't read the manual

  7. I went for the Vitrifrigo C42L because it uses even less juice than the Waeco!

Another benefit is that the compressor is seperate from the fridge which means it is not as deep.
