I only read the beginning of this where you said your old air vents looked tatty, and I can thoroughly recommend these: https://www.vwheritage.com/shop/bay...211-259-243/?crumbStartPage=1&crumbStartRow=1 A bargain and then you can put nice big speakers in your doors
So, speaker guru's, if I enclose the back of the speakers in a, well, an enclosure, will it improve their performance?
I know this because my rear facing ones are open backed, the same size as yours and sound tinny and harsh. Similar ones in the front in TINY boxes sound mellow.
Can I have some of your old pants? I never thought, in my wildest nightmares, that I'd ever type that sentence
If you're just using them as mids it probably won't make a huge difference. Bass (or full range) speakers do need some kind of enclosure (or a very large front panel) though. First thing would be to hook them up and see how they sound as-is. Did you get hold of any capacitors?
Yup. You could try them without first and see what they do, but to get any bass out of them you would need some kind of enclosure. The tube for the vent would be better than nothing if you want to see if they will produce any bass, as long as you can get it to form a seal around the speaker. I'd go for woolen socks rather than pants though.
Yes I think I'll use socks instead. I've got some old pants being sent to me by @beatnick so I'll put them on eBay and see what I can get for them.
Well its your choice but these are the finest quality wool hand crafted by ladies in a secret location somewhere oop north blstered only by tea and workers playtime. From my own collection.
