Free school meals

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Barry Haynes, Nov 8, 2020.

  1. Maggie (actually Ted Heath gave the instruction) cut it for children over 7, so it continued for the Infants and for children whose families were in benefits.
Wilson's government had already, a few years previously, cut it for secondary schools .
Some local authorities did continue free school milk from their own budgets.
Nursery schools still give out free milk.

I'll let you into a little secret but keep it to yourself, I'm not that interested in politics I think they are all a load fools both left and right, I think Boris Johnson is a buffoon and one of the worse prime ministers this country has ever had I could do a better job of running the country but shhhhh keep it to yourself

  6. Most of us on here are quite well off comparatively speaking but there is poverty out there and growing and children suffer and we don't want that. When I was a kid a big proportion of kids received free school meals and nobody moaned about that and there was no stigma over it, many of my mates got free school meals as their parents were poor for whatever reason. I think folks were more caring and understanding in those days and certainly our family struggled for many years. Most of those kids who got free school meals and came from very poor backgrounds went on to do well at school, go to university and better themselves. Many of my friends at grammar school were like me and came from poor backgrounds. Well done to Boris for reacting to public opinion,

No i am not saying dont give the money , but lets not fool ourselves that its being given freely by the government. NOTHING us given free by the government, they just re distribute money they got from all via taxes. In these very unusual times the government are distributing money in vast amounts that could not possibly have been budgeted for ,so in order to eventually bring back the country's pre planned budget they will have to recoup the money and they will recoup the money . Be it in form of raised taxes or reduced benefits or cuts to services. This is why i say the free meals are not free we all pay for it in the end

do you believe nobody knows the money comes from somewhere? It’s a pretty broad statement, just because it has to be paid for doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be , as I said do you notice your tax payments changing for the 2nd world war, m6 and so on, there always debt , always way always will be , the government simply manage it , some governments think not spending is saving, some thing investing is long term saving

when you talk about it all being paid back in the end , how far away do you envisage the end to be?

Surely the end is nigh? I've been told, by the man with a sandwich board and a rather undesirable odour!

  14. Laughable that not only did he do another U Turn, but he did so after putting pressure on his MPs to support him on what was an unpopular decision. I'm sure they will be well chuffed with him as well!

What a bunch of self interested clowns the lot of them...

According to the vegan society, the findings of over 400 scientific papers from reputable peer-reviewed journals such as the British Medical Journal and the Lancet, the research is clear – the consumption of cow’s milk and dairy products is linked to the development of teenage acne, allergies, arthritis, some cancers, colic, constipation, coronary heart disease, Crohn’s disease, diabetes, dementia, ear infection, food poisoning, gallstones, kidney disease, migraine, autoimmune conditions, including multiple sclerosis, overweight, obesity and osteoporosis.

God bless Maggie for saving our children from such pestilence!
