Bought the bus April 2011 as a project at the same time as moving house and forgot to Sorn it. Realised this about a month ago but decided to wait cos it was soon to be MOT'd and put back on the road. Expecting £80 fine.
MOT passed today!! ;D straight to the local post office and told them the tale, I could Tax it today from next month but shouldn't use it till Monday and they advised I ring DVLA and explain the situation rather than wait for them to come after me.
Looked on the .gov website and noticed that if the vehicle was last taxed before 1998 it doesn't have to have a sorn, I new that mine was last taxed in 1997 and then went to live in France for a lot of years, nice man in Wales confirmed this.
Result bus back on the road and no fine :)
I love Fridays, time for a celebratory beer or several iI think.

  3. Same thing happened with my beetle. Bought it as an unfinished project which hadn't been on the road for unknown years. So being a law abiding citizen as soon as the new V5 hit my mat i phoned DVLA to sorn it. Then the nice welsh person said i didnt have to due to it never being taxed for so long. ;D

It a useful thing to know if you have an unfinished project somewhere which has been off the road for a long time.
