flaps again

  1. got home tonight and shroud cooling flaps had been delivered (bargain at £50 complete)
they look in good condition and all the other parts are with them, rod, bar and thermostat so would seem everything will be straightforward to fit. the problem may be they seem to catch and dont fully open and stick on the little tab stop with the little rubber bung, this is because the part of the flap connecting to the thermostat rod is bent. i could bend it back out of the way but worried it might come off as only 2 small rivets hold it on. if this happens would it be safe to use small bolts probably using nylok nuts or will it have to be riveted back on after its been adjusted with the hammer...
sorry no pics yet as i havn't been in long and needed a glass of wine...

  2. I'd imagine bolts would be fine. Could use loctite or those metal locking bolts like nyloks. Or epoxy them on.

If the nuts come off, they're not going anywhere, anyway.

  3. I think I know the bit you mean and had the same problem with mine

....from memory, mine took quite a bit of force to tweek back into shape. If your worried about the spot welds breaking, open the flaps and use a pair of thin nosed mole grips to clamp accross the weld and flap (if that make sense) ....that should keep any force off of the spot welds

    icepug and snotty like this.
  4. cheers guys.
never had shroud off so didn't know whats under it so was worried if the nuts came off into something else
the part that seems to be bent connects to the top of the thermostat rod, funny bent part is just catching stop tab but is riveted and not welded on but cheers diddymen, thought mole grips on rivets and another mole grips or clamp to bend flatter and so not catching.
    another wine needed now...:hattip:

  5. Pop rivets might do?
