Fitting rock n roll bed... helpwith fitting, please!

  1. Hi

Finally got round to starting on the interior of my 73 T2. Bought a rock n roll bed a while back on the internet - its one of those that is adjustable for 3/4 or full width. Having had a dry run a month ago to work out where all the bits appear to go (no instructions supplied) I set about fixing in the bus today.

    Problems:
    1. The seat back seems too laid back
    2. I can make it into a bed but the sides catch when I try to fold back to seat position. Have tried adding extra washers in brackets
    3. The adjustable lengths were all too loose so have drilled and riveted but already 2 have failed
    4. In bed position it doesnt lock in position ie when flat it just rocks
    5. I've looked at a Volksworld video on Youtube and they say side brackets are different lengths I beleive by 2mm but my 4 were identical
    6. The hangers for raising the seat to get to under seat storage (removed and on floor in picture) fouled so need to be cut down a bit
    7. at the top of the seat back, welded to the back are a couple of very small brackets with holes in... no idea what they're for
    8. I recall reading at some point that with this type of frame a wooden batten was required but now cant find where I saw this on the internet... any ideas?

Would welcome any advice, pictures covering similar installation, etc

    Many thanks Glenn

It's been a while since I have fitted one but, the brackets on the floor are for holding the bed in bed position, I think the bolt under the seat base and swing round to sit on the front edge of the base, you do also need a wooden batten along the bulk head for the seat back to sit against in both bed and seat position, lots of people rave about theses beds (volkswares), but I thought they were poorly designed and much prefer a wooden Westfalia one

  3. Hi Davidoft
I'm inclined to agree to preferring Westfalia one! Any idea re size of wooden batten?
    Cheers Glenn
