Fitting Ball Joints

  1. Usually never get round to taking photos but always like looking at yours so today i thought i'd make good.
Just painted my trailing arms and needed to fit new Ball Joints and have been planning to try the tool I got to to the ones on
    my T4 work van.

So first off got bit and made sure everything lined up.

Then with breaker bar wound it in. Bit tough at the end next one i'll do with arm on van for better leverage. Also rotated tool a couple of times as I went to make sure joint square.

And the finished item ready for fitting to van.

I also used the tool to press the old joints out but had to grind them flange off the old ones. I'm going to make an adaptor so that in future it could be used to press joints out and in without removing arm.

Hope this is of interest to some of you.

Nice work, how hard was it getting the old ones out?

Where did you get the tool, and is it worth the money if I only ever use it once?

    :)

  3. Old ones not too bad to press out but once again would be easier on van for leverage. Tool is not cheap but as I had it already it
was good to be able to use as much as possible to help cover the cost. Hopefully other will be able to use as well.

  4. You were lucky to be able to just wind them in and out as my last set took a 50t press and a touch of heat.

Very nice piece of kit though,

  8. Im very impressed that tool got the old ones out as they usually need a massive amount of force

  12. couple of them were well rusted in and as I had arms off bus i had it on the floor and had one foot on arm and one on breaker bar. On one of them once tensioned up I had to hit the side of the arm to break the grip then came out fine.

  13. does anyone know where to get this tool from??? I think i need one :)

This is it silver i can understand the need if you can claim it back through your tax but if it's a one off job and you buy the tool would it have been cheaper to pay to have the job done ?

  20. As I had this for my t4 I thought I,d give it a go not sure I,d get one otherwise as they are not to bad on a bay but it,s a big job one the t4 to stip the suspension and a garage charges a small fortune.
