Fitting a front gearshift rod bush

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by the crumpets, Oct 8, 2015.

  1. Hello again,

My next job is to fit the gearshift rod bush (mind is missing altogether) I have scoped the difficulty already but,

Do I have to remove the gearshift rod before fitting and if I do is it best mark where the gear stick is and remove, remove the rod by the coupler fit the bush and then replace the parts taken off or am I inadequate and it should fit straight on with the today in place.

    Thanks in advance

    Duncan

  2. unless you're in a rush, you may as well take the whole shooting match off, clean everything up, replace all the necessary parts, re-grease and refit....probably not what you wanted to hear, but once it's done, it's done....plenty of info available on how to re align the stop plate....

Yes, minimal fix is gearstick out, find the bolt on the shifter rod joining the front shifter rod section to the next one -, by going back along the rod a couple of feet - it is up above the handbrake cables. Undo that bolt and then you can slide the front shifter rod back enough to change the bushing.

  5. did mine without removing the gearstick, checkout www.ratwell.com under gearbox repairs. there are info and pics. Did a thread on this title 'no more sloppy gearchange' about September last year!
