The chaps pointed out your van's poor recent mot history and a very long list of failure reasons plus a further list of advisories, all mainly relating to the corroded body, poor brakes and illegal tyres. Ok the upper body with its new paint looks fine, BUT what is it like where it matters? ie. underneath? And why has it done only a few miles in the past few years? was it off road being repaired? What about the tyres? And the brakes? If I were you I would get the entire underbody checked out with the van up on a lift. Forget the colour scheme and the curtains, check out the body structure.
Hi from West Lancashire - ours is an M reg 73 - same as yours but without the original interior - just made one of my own to make the 3/4 R&R bed a full width one - have lots of fun with it.
Good news, I had the van up on a ramp today and me, a fellow van owner and an MOT inspecter can all confirm it is solid underneath !! Yes all of the jacking points have had reapair but I would say its 90% original with the main repairs being on the front arches. The black gunk reported on previous MOT's isn't hiding anything it's just there doing its job. Many thanks for the sound advice......
That's good news. So many stories of folks spending a load of money on their first van only to discover its rot. Also good is you have now looked underneath with others and confirmed the body was repaired. We raised the matter of fuel hoses as many of us, me included, had cracked and perished hoses, we think due to ethanol in petrol. Several engine bay fires have been reported with these vans so take note and keep an eye out for cracks and signs of fuel leaks (smells). Good luck with your van.
Welcome., lovely conversions those westy continentals and glad you've got a nice solid one as well Change the oil often and don't go above 60
Very nice. Respect due to your first drive I'm a v lazy T2 owner and have not done hardly any work on mine (and I drive it over 60 )
