  1. can anyone tell me if the firewall has any type of seals or nothing at all.
have taken mine off today to check and replace fuel filler pipe and some cruddy polystyrene came out with it, if its supposed to have seal where can you get them.
    cheers guys.

  2. I can't honestly remember if it has a seal on or not...I seem to have a vague memory of some weedy foam like draught excluder....but i may have just imagined it...

Anyway, the thing to buy is a small tin of 'Eldro Dum Dum'...from a decent car shop...it's like plasticine for grown ups....use it wherever you need a vibration free seal....good stuff...much cheapness

assuming you can get hold of it....

  3. Out of interest, can the firewall be removed without first removing the engine? I've a hatch above the engine

  4. i think it depends on which engine. with the 1600 will be a bit tricky but even if you could you probably couldn't do much else with the engine still in.

  5. It's the standard 1600 single carb engine. The overhead hatch gives me hope that all the bolts are accessible. Shame to take the engine out, but it would be great to replace all the hidden fuel pipes as they're probably as old as the 1979 camper :(

  6. You wont get the firewall out without dropping the engine on a 1600

  7. The panel should have some foam strip around it to stop it rattling.

  8. not a chance.........
you would need to drop it to do that unless your double no triple jointed...

  9. is it fire-proofed in any way or can you use any type of foam/ rubber strips to insulate between panel and mounting frame
    cheers snotty

  10. no....it's not fireproofed...'firewall' is a misnomer, although some may beg to differ.....you can buy intumescent draught excluder.....

  12. Draught excluder or neoprene foam strip'll do. The "firewall" is just a panel.

  13. cheer for replys guys will find something suitable for replacing it after its been painted...

  14. I prefer tumescent stuff, as it's a little stiffer...
