I have got myself all confused to what it is I have then!

 

Am I better off leaving the pancake filter on the carb then?

Would I benefit from returning the the mounted paper filter?

 

Plenty do just that. It would seem the cheaper option at the moment, unless you have running issues that you think a stock filter will address.

 

That is the part Craig, it's a stand for an paper element air filter. Silver's won't fit it, though I've seen them bodged into place with tie-wraps - nothing's impossible.
I'd start another wanted for paper element filter housing or change this one.

 

Would my engine benefit from it? I'm not bothered about originality.

 

You'll be ok in the summer, so time to keep your eye out for the paper type one. In the meantime carry on with your pancake filter.

 

Yes, it'll run better particulary when it's cold.
