  1. With all this snow and cold weather , it doesnt go a miss to give the birds a treat, nice bit of fat with nuts n rasins , they are really hungry , i put some right by my patio doors today and they have come right up whilst i am sitting here, tits ,black birds , doves , and just now a robin and a little jenny wren. They are fun to watch too.

We want to feed the birds but we have cats - so by feeding the birds we more than often feed the cats.

  5. We have bird feeders hanging up just outside the house so we can see them - if you hang them carefully, cats won't be able to get at them. We also leave all of the surplus apples on the grass from the autumn - when it's frosty and hard to find food in the winter, the blackbirds and fieldfares come down and eat them.

  6. I've been scraping away the snow everyday and putting out bread for the birds and they really do shoot straight down for it as soon as my back is turned.

We've got three cats but luckily they either don't like snow/are too old/can't be arsed so the birds are sorted :)

  7. We feed the birdies from autumn onwards (once you start, you mustn't stop, specially in this weather, otherwise they use up vital energy trying to get to food that isn't there). They love mealworms! Fortunately my cat has never bothered with the birds, though we've got 2 newish cats in the area that are taking an interest :(

  8. Its a great thing to do to feed our wild birds over winter but beware of over feeding as surplus feed can attract rats
