FAO Front Beam Dismantlers

  1. Flex those biceps and tell me this...

Been a long time since I dismantled my "spare" beam, so I forget. With the van up on stands, the steering knuckle jacked so you can take off the bump stops...when you lower the knuckle again, is there still spring tension on the upper arm, so it rests on the bump stop "holder"?

I seem to recall there is, ie you can't release the torsion leaf pressure completely before you hammer the arms out.

    All thoughts welcome.

Yes, loads - or enough to be annoying. Once free it'll dangle at the same angle as the lower one. It's the sole reason for the hammering, the lower one slips on and off easily.

  3. Thought so. What's the trick for getting it back on so the zig-zaggy bits engage with the torsion leaves. Lever it up?

It'll be engaged with the leaves before you have to lever it back onto the arm and tap it the rest of the way.
