Don't worry about the woodruff key. You just remove the outer part of the pulley and the woodruff key stays hidden and secure holding the inner part in place.

  11. Cheers Zed still definitly good to know about the woodruff key if it had of gone missing for whatever reason that would probebly be the one part I would through in the bin thinking it was just a odd piece:thumbsup:

  12. all your shims should be already there. you just move them from the outside to the inside for a new belt. I did mine recently and had to put all of them on the inside.

you need a nice type 4 engine the fan belt is there for to drive the alternator, not to stop your engine going mmmm i'm warm, oh wait, i'm getting tight....ohhh now i'm slowing down...... owwww that hurt.....where did you say the aa card was?

  15. i do beg your pardon re the woodruff key , i remember now it was when i had the lot off to replace my alternator stand , anyway if ever you take the pulley right off beware!! its a right pain in the b u m if you loose it and you was hoping to go out that day.

My mate replaced the top pulley, he couldn't get it to line up, it was sitting proud.. After much messing around with the stand ect he ran it as was, it wore the belt, I had a look and found that when he had pushed the back bit of the pulley on it had slightly unseated the woodruff key and then pinched it. It is very easy to do. I always check with a mirror now if its properly seated. Always make sure I never disturb that back pulley when adjusting the belt.

  17. Thank you very much for the help all done and it is running fine quite an easy job really just got to keep an eye on it for the adjustment

  18. And here is another dum one I did a while back , decided whilst engine was running to test belt tension (with my finger) will not try that one again.

  19. Jesus have you still got your finger I must admit it's like a big red button saying do not touch but you have the massive temptation to touch!!!
