Thanks to @davidoft i now have a fully working factory Eberpacher BA6 underfloor heater, and its fantastic. This was factory fitted to my van but probably hadn't run in 20 years or so. Lots of work involved to get it working; siezed pump, blocked fuel line, new feed /t piece required, switch and the controller both not working right, exhaust patching needed, wiring missing but all sorted now (thanks david!) and it really is super effective. The interior of my van is now covered with a layer or dust and sand as the blowers are so strong they're blowing out 36 years of crap, and in terms of heat it really is hot, so much so that after a few minutes running you can hardly hold your hand over the outlets its so hot. So glad we persevered with this rather than going with an aftermarket unit - as it pumps out the heat via the main heating system its great not only for cold evenings camping but also for demisting and general driving. V happy. Thanks David for giving up your weekend to get this done for me. Kids will be living on bread and water for the rest of the month but hey its worth it
Gawd bread and water , they dunno they were born, cardboard and condensation when I were a lad Did you get told off for being late and spending the dinner money ?
'Tis indeed an Ebers exhaust silencer. Quite easy to obtain. There's a bloke in Turkey on eBay who seems to be able to get hold of any obscure Ebers parts: worth a try. Got my silencer in the box with the heater, but I think they're about £20.
exhaust silencer....so you don't p*ss your camping neighbour off when you're heater switches on and off all night.... the air intake silencers work a treat also as does insulated ducting and a 3:1 duct length ratio (eh @Barneyrubble ?)
bn4 i think i got 1 that needs the coil and another that needs the plug. i got 1 sort of working pump and a BN1 that works but needs a pump
Hmm. Might have trouble with spares for those, unless it's from another VW owner or similar. Can still get most spares for B/D1L onwards (although Ebers hate them, probably for good product-liability reasons). Could also try an Ebers dealer. I've used Halls Electrics in Brizzle in the past.
Is this right? I just googled the btu of the BA6 heater, ratwell.com says its 24,000! no wonder its hot, a propex HS2000 uis 6500 btu..
