'Ey up, everyone!

Discussion in 'Introduce Yourselves' started by lobber, Dec 10, 2012.

  1. Just bought my first camper and picked her up at the weekend. She's a 1972 built van, but 1973 registered which I am guessing makes her a tax exempt crossover assuming I have got the terminology right? Very new to the whole camper scene but I have been looking at vans for a while and after being diagnosed with Leukaemia in December 2011 (I'm now in full remission) I decided that life is too short and that I needed to take a punt and enjoy camping and travelling in a camper rather than wishing for one. So here I am.

Now before anyone can post the 'This thread is useless without pictures!' line...... here are some pics from the ebay sale:

It's a pretty solid van, but as expected has some things that need some work on, in particular the locks on passenger side and sliding door. Alloys will need replacing or refurbishing and the heat exchangers looking at as there is zero heat coming out of them. The drive back on saturday was cold to say the least!

I'm proud to say I broke down within the first 10 mins as there wasn't any fuel in and my mate had to go fill a jerry can up to get us to the filling station. The previous owner was mortified when I called her laughing to explain the predicament, and offered to come help which was kind of them. They left me a full set of replacement seals and a JK camper cover as well. And to top it off I got home and whilst rummaging around found they had very kindly put 2 cans of real ale in the fridge as a gift which I thought was a very nice touch!

Driving the van was fun and the vagueness of the gear stick was a challenge but I did enjoy the drive home.

Well, I think that's it for now. I have a lot to learn and will no doubts be posting questions shortly about the locks!!

    See you around.
    Andy
