Me vans just started to pop a bit on the overrun, it is running fine apart from that,I recently had it on the rolling road and its not lean.Valves, timing, HT system all good, Im 99% sure its an exhaust leak as when I was under it a few months ago I noticed that there was an exhaust stud sheared off. I left it as it was running OK.
Were off to Cornwall in the morning, just wondered if the exhaust leak would cause any lasting damage as I won't have time to fix it before we set off!!

No, it will be blowing, or sucking past the gasket I would imagine!

I patched a huge hole on the flanges to the header and heat box with it and Iv been good so far, good luck with it mate.

  5. If it's the exhaust to Hx that's leaking don't worry about it so long as you're not getting any fumes in the cabin, which you'll need to watch out for if you get sat in any heavy traffic

Cheers mate, I notice that these studs are M8/M9 stepped, when I do do it do you know if I could heat it up and easy out it without disturbing the exhaust system and replace it through the exchanger or is it a take it all off job.

Glad I put 99% and not 100%, just doing me pre flight check and found I could do the nuts holding the carbs on with me fingers!!!
I fitted some of them there heat blocking gaskets on the 34 ICT's from fastcarpart,s good kit, but I had torqued them up correctly about a fortnight ago and they have worked loose. Will keep an eye on them, if you fit these be aware, they are quite spongy, could have overheated the beast if I had not picked it up!!!
    Running AOK now.

Heat exchanger to exhaust manifold stud.

  10. You should be ok, as long as no fumes are being sucked back into the heating. When you take the HE off, you'll find a nice line of soot where the exhaust was leaking.
