Exhaust advice wanted!

  1. Ok so I have not long had my van and no doubt I will be posting alot in this forum but can some one please help with the following question:

My van currently has a 4 to 1 manifold and a beetle exhaust (non stainless) and makes a right old racket when firing up. The exhaust sits directly under the rear bumper causing it to turn black. I without doubt need to replace it and am looking for the quietest must fuel efficient option. (My van also has twin solex carbs)

Am I best to replace it with a similar stainless steel t2 option or a more original stock single quiet pack exhaust?

  2. Hi Simon
I'm no expert but it seems to me if you have uprated carbs then you need a free flowing exhaust
People will be along tomorrow with proper advice

    If it's a 1600 its a type 1 engine.

You can't have a 4:1 header and a beetle exhaust, they don't fit together. Maybe look again at what you have and report back?

  7. Sorry chaps new to this! its a type 1 engine please see below picture of exhaust which I was told was a beetle exhaust!

I expect it has "bug-pack" embossed on the silencer.
It's a small flange 4:1 header and silencer of the cheaper variety.
Others will advise. I like standard beetle exhaust with twin pipes, but don't think they fit a late bay.

  9. The bluebird exhaust i linked to will fit straight on and not be any where near as noisy as the one you currently have fitted

  10. Ok so going back to my original question what would be a better option exhaust for me looking for fuel effieience and being a little less noisy? (taking into account the twin carbs) Thanks again for all your comments!

  11. The one i linked to a few posts back

  12. If you've got a type 1 engine and a single carb, just fit a standard exhaust (stainless if you're keen).

  13. Hes running a type 1 with twin carbs
