Doing few checks before holiday and was a large pool of oil came out of rocker cover on only one side. There is no leaking from pushrod tubes, it uses no oil but no1 rockers are oily. Could head need re torqueing ? If I remove rocker assembly what's best to clean area. Also after 7 years and numerous patching empi is on way out. Would a stainless empi mondo fit a standard bay. Was the van leaning to one side? May have stopped it draining back down. There’s no other path for oil apart from up the middle of the pushrods.
Probably leaning but why was no1 more oilly than rest @snotty ? Can I use petrol on rag to clean or degreaser ? Sent from my SM-J510FN using Tapatalk
When the engine is running, oil is constantly fed up the push rods to internally lubricate the rocker arms, and thrown directly up the push rod tubes by the spinning crank. At high RPM the rocker boxes tend to fill up with oil, and because the engine is not symmetrical and the crank spins clockwise, differing amounts of oil end up going up each push rod tube. Because the push rod tubes arent quite the lowest point in the head, not all the oil runs back to the sump. What you see is totally normal. If theres no oil there there is something badly wrong. If its gunged up with sticky black mess, your valve guides are leaking exhaust gas into the oil or somebody has not been changing the oil regularly in the past. Dont bother cleaning if its just normal runny engine oil. To clean, white spirit or petrol is quite cheap.
This ^^^ Stop looking for non existent problems . Rocker cover back on , check oil and have a great trip Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Alternatively you could go the quantum route - you can either know how much oil there is, or which rocker cover it has accumulated within, but not know both answers at the same time
Don't forget that the probability of oil dripping on your head when you take the cover off will always be 1.
