  1. IF you have one, could you let me know and how much you want for it , thanks Barney[IMG]

  2. It wouldn't be too much trouble for a descent upholstery person to fabricate one to your specs.
If you don't mind my asking though,... why? It's like a massive wrap-around blind spot on a stick.

  3. yes i could probably do that , but would prefer an original if poss , alot of people rip out their interiors and do their own thing but im trying to keep it original and 70s style .Cant really see your point re blind spot, but all good headrests should stop sideways movement too, i unfortunately have been a victim of this , getting damage to my spine /neck in a modern car that doesnt have side impact protection for your neck , in my view car headrests have not improved ,ie to protect the neck but its just my opinion from my own experience. IMO these headrests dont restrict view in any way . Thanks for your comments anyway BW

  4. I can't even see when backing up with my original headrests. When I turn around they're all I see. I wish they were like my new beetle headrests, open in the center to see thru. (Sayyyyy,... I just wonderrrrrr  )
I was once hit in the rear in my '79 Trans Am on the interstate so hard the roof buckled and the windshield cracked. He had to have been goin about 100MPH to my 6o.
Thank GOD the road was wet or I'd have flipped for sure! Instead, I spun around 3 times, fast as a top. I stopped rather abruptly when the front end hit the 4ft tall cement divider.
That old girl, crumpled like a tin can, she still fired right back up and I was in a regular hot pursuit ala Smokey & the Bandit. OHHHHH I was gonna catch that $%^#*&!!!!
I chased that assmunch thru the grittiest streets of downtown Detroit at 3am, nearly taking corners on two wheels.
Until it struck me. What was I going to do when I caught this probably armed, probable hopeful gang member who had probably just rammed me in a stolen car as part of a gang initiation?
Needless to say, I backed off at that juncture.
But my point was, I gashed my head on the side window when I hit the wall spinning. (fully belted in, mind you) So I do understand where you're coming from.
But I'm so stupid I will STILL sometimes toss my bus's headrests in the garage. I back up every day. If I'm flyin blind I'm gonna mow down one of the neighbors many, many. many children. (would they really miss just one or two?)
Maybe we should put our heads together and design a clear acrylic headrest. We could give it some cushion by putting just a little flexibility in the posts. They could even be tinted to match one's bus, but still transparent.
Or perhaps I've gone & had a bit too much tea again.
    Blast! o_O

  5. Your probably right BW , i dont drink tea so i dont know :D still dont get you thou??when i look in my rear view mirror im looking out back past my head rest as its behind my head ,this one is admitted for a passenger but he can see out back :D . If people want to race then a full race harness is IMO the best bet with roll bar full face helmet neck brace etc etc , but my poor old camper doesnt want to race nor me so all i want is a 1970s headrest that is in keeping with the rest of my interior. Their maybe others that may wish to take you up on your dragons den idea but im just gona have myself a coffee :hattip:. I do have a cuckoo clock thou ;)

    carlperkins001 and 3901mick like this.
  6. Ah. You are one of those people who are confident enough with a mirror to not bother turning around.
I do that in my car, but maybe I'm still just not entirely comfortable with my bus yet. Plus there are no lights on my end of the street for some reason. Pitch black. I love and hate that.
You totally lost me on dragon's den. All I can picture is a cave with piles of gold.

Don't get your hopes up Barney....just thought I'd post a pic of the type that were fitted to Beetles...if you're after a set, it's either strike it lucky at an autojumble or have some made....personally, I'd investigate the latter......a few sets of these would absolutely fly off the shelves, so to speak...essentially, some tubing, high density foam (or shaped phenolic) scrim , basket weave and trimming....if you like I'll make a few enquiries as I know a man who can.....

  8. here's another option that was more or less dismissed on here a few weeks ago, due to the VW seat construction....but where there's a will.....;)
you should be familiar with the basic seat frame design, Barney:thumbsup:
