  2. If you do one touristy thing, go see the SS Great Britain. Tis fab. And the harbour area is dead groovy.

Daps are those black plimsoles that kids used to wear for physical education. It’s not ‘just’ a Bristol thing.
Just sayin’. The Bristol accent, is not unlike a Cornish one. My wife’s family (originally called Jago, which is Spanish), move over here in the 1600’s, to Cornwall. They later moved to Bristol to become governors of the city. Maybe that may contribute to today’s Bristol accent. “You Bin ard,bin ee?”. Meaning,’You think your tough’usually said just before a fight.

  4. All right me Babber?

I’d go and see the Suspension Bridge and around the Observatory for good views of the bridge. Pretty iconic Bristol - benefit is you can jump off it if not happy with election result. popular pastime in Labour Bristol since Thursday.

Banksy Trail - you can look at some graffiti- some of which is quite good and some has been whitewashed over and is rubbish. Benefit is you can look like a proper tourist and get mugged in Stokes Croft

Jazz- get down the Old Duke in Kings Street and see some groovin’ live jazz. Benefit is if you don’t like Jazz there’s loads of pubs and bars including a Cider Bar/boat called ‘The Apple’. Also you can fall in the docks when drunk and become part of the ‘Bristol Pusher’ serial killer legend. Mint

Other highlights include Chasers nite-club in kingswood for getting your face slashed in a sat night.

Turbo island - a popular hangout for connoisseurs of white cider in plastic bottles.

Stapleton Road Easton - once named Britain’s most dangerous road - try your luck and see if you end up dead!

Wife used to live in Windmill Hill, Bedminster,as a very young girl in the 70’s. One of Bristols slum areas. Now prices of houses there have gone through the roof.

View from my house - Windmill Hill just off to the left of the big park area. Brunel’s suspension bridge is the suspension bridge shaped thing.

I’d say you’ve pretty much sold it to me

  9. Got dumped off a train at Stapleton Rd on our way to Eastville Stadium for a Newport game back in the 80's. Interesting experience - especially the ambushing under the flyover.

Then lying on the floor of the train whilst it got bricked by the ever friendly Rovers fans

    Ah, the good old days.........

Another vote for the Dug Out down in Bristol, just up from the BRI just in case you over indulge in anything you shouldn’t. I don’t think it’s still there now. There were two unassuming doors from memory, the one on the left went into the shop which sold all manner of weird stuff, I think I can remember rather large knives plus some throwing knives and things like Zippos etc and possibly replica style guns etc. The shop was always shut by the time I got to the club and I always thought I’d pop back for a browse during the day but never quite managed it. The other door led to a very dim winding staircase going under the shop and you could hardly breath in there for smoking things everywhere of all descriptions from ciggies to joss sticks to joints, and you didn’t even need to join in really because there was no choice, you was getting stoned just by being in there. I think this place was instrumental in my affair with reggae and jazz funk.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,, happy dazzzzze, yes I was:)

  15. It's got bigger recently, but it's one of the better UK airports, hope the owners don't turn it into another Edinburgh airport, now indistinguishable from a shopping mall

  16. They all turn into shopping malls, with a sideline in air transport...

  17. The ones owned by GIP seem to be particularly prone to this transformation; Edinburgh barely functions properly as an airport anymore.

My wife’s mum, Sue, used to go to the nightclub where Darth Vader (David Prowse), was the bouncer. Just before he was in An Clockwork Orange’. It’s an old people’s home now.

  20. Nah ours is tucked up safe and sound in the garage so the useless at parking neighbours don’t drive into it like they do with everything else parked in the road.
