Engine won't idle when cold

Just recently been serviced and it idled ok before so I am guessing it is a set up problem. Starts fine but just won't quite tick over and cuts out at junctions, after about 10 minutes of driving it's fine.
Had a play with the idle adjustment screw and the air intake on the top had slipped off so was just sat on the carb, have reconnected but neither seem to have made any difference.

    Any tips welcome

    If it's a 34 PICT 3 carb, google Vw-resource as there's a really simple set-up guide.
I'd link to it but I'm on my phone.

  5. or check out the latebay carb guide ....the vw resource link is good but no cigar to the man .......its very long winded way of setting a pict34-3 ...........i think i posted a link from vzi-moby sumwhere ........that works better .....top screw 1 n half turns out from screwed in and fuel screw was 2 n half to 3 turns out from being screwed in .....then adjust as ness bruv .....well it worked for moi loads better .......

The VW resource guide is a piece of ******* to follow. Not seen (or looked for) a better one.

  8. for starters ..get that plastic filter out the engine bay !!!!!!fire hazard if it drips, falls apart or gets dislodged........that isnt a pict34-3 ..so take no notice of the adjustment i said .......i think on that carb the adjustment is just down to the idle screw???

    Don't think that's his engine.

Haha, that's google images for you. Supposed to be working at the moment so can get a proper pic just yet. Does look very similar to my carb though from memory, the idle adjust is by a screw on the left hand side.

Maybe. Always worked great for me.

  13. Make sure engine is warmed up properly before you adjust anything, and idle screw on choke cam is just (fag paper of cam ) then turn in quarter turn then set carb up ie when choke is off important. You will also have to be sure no leaks, Tappets ,timing, points if you have and plug gaps are right before you do any of this or your wasting your time, i learned eventually . They work well then, go like a rocket . Oh yes you probably no adjust tappets when stone cold too.

  15. have you got a fuel leak?looks wet on the carb, also that plastic filter in the enginebay aint a good idea IMHO

  16. If that was my engine id be moving the plastic filter out of there
Replacing the fuel pipes and binning that fuel catalyst or whatever its called thats sat in the fuel line

Also your accelerator cable conduit thay goes through the fan housing appears to have come adrift from the rear of the fan housing
