Can't beat them if you're doing serious engine dismantling. I got a cheap Sealy wheely thing in an eBay sale, and replaced the standard engine holder with a semicircular VW/Porsche engine holder that slides into the stand. Super duper, can twizzle the engine through 360* (and work sitting down).
I have one like the one pictured that I don't need. Only used a couple of times. Looks like they sell new for about £50+ post. If you're interested I'll remind myself how it comes apart. If the upright comes off the base, yours for £35 including postage if you're interested.
Ive got one like that too, so much more better working on the engine standing up. The good thing about it is that i used the bace to pull the engine and push back into the van so could whip it out by myself.
