After much debate rather than putting my engine back together and just running it into the ground (the endfloat is just over the max at 0.2mm) i am going to do a full rebuild

I have done a couple of normal engines in the past but not a aircooled flat 4

Whats the best book to get to help me out or do i just use u-tube and forums

  2. Get Tom Wilsons red engine book. Bit dated but still good.

I'll second that!! Proper page turner. I used it to rebuild my engine and I'm a complete novice and had never even gapped my plugs before!!

The only thing i got wrong (i hope) was getting the Type 4 rocker mounts all the right way round :) I did leave the carb tuning to others, but that's a dark art anyhow!

There's a new Laurie Petit book apparently, which I imagine is worth a punt, but from experience the red book won't do you wrong.
