Engine questions..

  1. hey guys, got a quick few questions about my engine. forewarning... technical lingo may be way off and I am a complete novice.. haha

ive been putting it together slowly, a bit each evening.

    1. i got a new cylinder head, brazillian 040 one.. and the rocker cover is quite loose on it, the other side snaps on nice an tight but the new head side just lazily slips on.. anything i can do about this?

    2. also, (this is really hard to explain) but ive been putting the doughouse fan flaps & linkage in, i run the little stick through the head and put the thermostat on, but when i go to put the thermostat bracket on.. it looks like it will be too tight and stop the thermostat from moving..
when the thermostat heats up and expands, im guessing it pushed the stick up and opens the flaps.. ?
mine would be stuck permanantly in the flap open position.

    3. thirdly.. I cant seem to push the distributor into its hole.. i remember it being tight on the way out but its really hard to get back in.. and also theres a spinny thing on the bottom of it and a corresponding slot inside the hole it fits into..
I take it as long as the 2 splines on the spinny thing locate.. this is fine? i.e it cant be 180 out.

    cheers in advance

    1. The bail may be bent?
    2. pull thermostat down against the spring to open close the flaps, then tighten the thermostat bracket bolt.
    3. maybe it is 180 degs out and that's why it won't go right in?

  3. 1. by bail i assume you mean the thing that snaps up? if so.. it isnt that. its a brand new scat one and i tried it on my old useless head and it fits fine. :/

    2. "pull thermostat down against the spring to open close the flaps, then tighten the thermostat bracket bolt" open or close?

    3. forgot to say, it gets in to the black seal thing then wont go any further, i did replace this seal so could it just be a case of new seal and needs a bit extra shove? maybe lube up with some oil?

cheers for the quick reply zed

    Close.
Oil the seal, they are tight.
