engine lift

  1. I'm toying with what to do if I have to join the over 70's in self isolation. It's about time fixed my engine properly. I've had it out twice so I know how, but it was pretty labour intensive involving lots of jacking and lumps of wood. Last time I did it I kept the automatic transmission attached, but this time I'd prefer to separate it.

So recommendations please for a suitable hoist. A motorcycle jack seems to be a good idea if I can get sufficient lift. It's a 2 litre t4 engine, and my suspension is stock height.

  2. Folk seem to have good results with flat motorcycle jacks with type 4s.

Trying to take the engine out with the tranny attached is pure madness ;)

  3. Indeed, but I broke something in the trans the first time I took the engine out, so I need to be working with a good firm lift. If anybody can cite me a suitable cheapish hoist which has the right lift that would be good.

Type 1's you can just get underneath and haul out by hand:thumbsup:

  4. Mines currently sat on one waiting for me to get my finger out to put it back in.. and finish replacing the tank and a bit of wire tidying..

Let you know how easy it lifts it back in at the weekend but seems to have plenty of height .

Managed to jenga the engine off the stand with it too!
