Engine lid lock question?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by the crumpets, Oct 27, 2013.

  1. My key was the wrong one for the engine lid lock. I used the tutorial from another thread and got it sorted.
Now when I lock the engine lid the push button doesn't depress, obviously when I unlock it does depress.
Have I done something wrong when I put it back together.
The tailgate lock a above depresses when locked and unlocked.
If it is wrong has anyone got any suggestions how to sort it.
    Thanks in advance

  2. I've got a Brazilian lid lock and it's exactly the same - the button doesn't move in when it's locked, unlike the tailgate lock.

    Sounds ok!

Quite right. Tailgate is in two pieces so when locked piece "a" misses piece "b". Engine lid all one piece so only way to stop it opening is to stop the button pressing in.

  4. Same as mine which I made out of an old non key engine lid lock and an old beetle deck lid lock (I think). o_O

  5. I'd rather not have one.

Certainly wouldn't drive with it locked, in 10 years of bus ownership noone has stolen anything from my engine bay

  6. depends if you have forked out on new carbs - you would want it to lock then :)

  7. You obviously live in a nicer arear than some of us less fortunate than yourself. Around here, if it's not screwd to the floor then it's classed as permission to take it away.

  8. Fit one. There are few vehicles easier to hot-start than a Bay.

  9. Does anyone sell a chrome one for me '73 Westy?

  10. No need to even open the engine hatch to do that

Anyone wanting to get in my engine bay will have to move two swing away carriers out of the way first
