Engine brace bar- different sizes?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Ben Biscoe, Mar 16, 2021.

  1. I'm in the process of fitting a type 4 engine from a 1977 bay into a 1974 bay. I've just offered up the brace bar (engine support bar) to the van it's going in, and the brackets on the van are much wider than those on the donor. Are there different bars available, or should there be some kind of mounting insert? Thanks for your help.

Was the previous motor a type 1 by any chance?

The engine support bars have different mounts on the chassis to one another

  3. Possibly- the van it's going into was bought without an engine. I noted the mounts are bolt on- I assume it's just a case of unbolting and swapping then. Thanks for your help.

The way the bar bolts to the brackets is a little bit odd ball. If you hadn't seen it together you could easily be scratching your head?
The bar to bracket bolts on the left side are in line with the chassis, "inside" the bracket.
The bar to bracket bolts on the right side are to the left (engine side) of the chassis, "outside" the bracket.
The brackets are identical and fitted as a mirrored pair with holes for both left and right fixings.
All bus type-4 engine bars are identical.
