Engine bearer rubber mountings?

  1. The bus (-74) shakes and jumps if I drive with load and the road is a bit uneven. Ends if I release or clutch. I first suspected the rear bend Sleeve as it was a small bend, under 20mm (should be 25-45) changed to a new tube and a new cable, adjusted me within tolerance. Still problem. Replaced the front gearbox mount that looks like a cowhorn

Seemed Quite ok but softer rubber (Old?) than the New aftermarket unit that is in place now. Still problem.

Slackened further on the clutch cable, so the pedal takes a little low, still a problem.

So now I thought I would go for the two rear engine beam cushions. But it looks so sickly crowded (!) How do I do this in the smoothest way? What is the minimum I need to disassemble to access? Right heater Chamber and oil filter?? These also feel a little softer when I poke at them compared to the new one.
When I lift under the engine, I see a small gap upwards on the rubber, so it is not completely fresh.

Do you think this is the fault or could this be a symptom of a bad Clutch / friction disc?
Or is it some more things that could cause this jumping that I can exchange....

those engine mounts are shot, you can see the cracks a mile away.

Pop a jack towards the fan housing end of the motor, supporting the sum, just in case.

    Remove the engine support bar.

You need to move the fan housing to get to the bolts holding the engine mount brackets to the engine case, one bracket on each half. I cant remember if you need to undo and move the fan housing out of the way or not. I stripped our type 4 down prior to removing the mount bar and rubber mounts

Remove the brackets, swap the mounts over and rebuild

  3. Thank you, I managed to do it with the fan housing in place. Removed the right heat chamber (Muffler first) and the oilfilter only. Then the whole beam were possible to slide out.

But now to next question, I had some heat champer gasgets following when I bought the bus, this is not correct?

Can I just bolt it back against this?

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

The copper ring is for earlier oval port heads.
There is a gasket of the correct type already on the head in your photo but new ones would be better.

  5. Thank you! I have reassemeled everything now and it seem fine. The new rubbers seems much firmer, but I can still provoke some minor trans shake behaviour. But that is probably normal, so I think I can live with that :)
