So nearly done, I've done a second coat of Rustoleum inside the bay now and it isn't looking half bad. Much better than black IMHO. Just some tidying up to do and touch ups and it'll be right. Engine is being picked up tomorrow and I am just waiting on my fuel hose arriving so that I can replace the bit from the tank. Once that is on and clamped, I can put some petrol back in the tank and make sure the pipes I've replaced don't leak.
Did you paint or spray the engine bay? Make sure you get good R9 hose there's plenty out there that is crap and needs changing a year later. May I suggest you get the guaranteed stuff from air cooled works - they were offering 15% off at one point.
I've hand painted it using a brush and roller - I had to mix the paint myself to almost the right colour for the bus but it is a near enough match and I'm happy enough with it. Good advise re: the hose
So, fuel pipes replaced, and (missing) fuel filter added. Fuel put in tank - no leaks so firewall and porthole panel now replaced: so we've gone from this: to this:
Thankyou. Yes it is worth it, and will be feasible to keep a bit cleaner now. Plus, as I have a habit of putting things down and losing them, they'll be easier to see now.
Thank you I'm having a new engine so it will (hopefully) be shinier than a shiny thing when it is installed I've also painted the tinware that goes round the front, but that is black to match that on the engine.
That looks so much better in there now Now would also be a good idea to get some cavity wax in all the areas behind the firewall
I checked in there - it is actually all good and evidence of the earlier Ziebart treatment was visible. I have waxoyled the parts of the chassis above and around the gear box as they are pretty inaccessible when the engine and box are in place, so have taken advantage of the opportunity. A small bit of welding is required I think on rear chassis near the engine support mount prior to engine re-fit.
Thanks Zed, and everyone else for your kind words. It is a worthwhile job if you have the opportunity I think. My next stage to this is removing the hatch to sort out some small areas of rust on the inside. At the same time I will be replacing the hatch seal as the old one has seen better days.
Looking great mate well worth the work involved it looks 100% better Tip for the hoses, get a can of silicone lubricant spray, will make the rubber slip on the metal and plastic easily, and it eventually dries so the hoses won't pop back off!
Gearbox next you know you want to You have caught the spruce up bug im sure and im happy to see its spreading
funny you should say that, I sprayed some Gunk on the outside earlier to soak into the oily crud on there, need to get a scrubbing brush on it I think
Im busy doing my engine bay too,i used a very strong degreasant and its already looking better. I dont agree with those who say the engine room should be dirty? Why?
