Hi all Just wondering if anyone has tackled chopping out and replacing the engine lid hinge panel? Just wondered if anyone knew where the top and bottom spots are and how many.. Cheers Benj Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
There is a row of spot welds along the top lip of the engine bay surround: And another row along the rear hatch lip (where the clamps are below): You should be able to see the welds on your old panel. Easiest thing to do is to just drill straight through the spot weld on both panels with a suitably sized drill bit (think I usually use 6mm or so). Make sure you test fit your engine lid before you weld everything in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
As above I had to do mine to and was one of the easier repairs to do Sent from my JSN-L21 using Tapatalk
Sorry to hijack this thread.. James... Are they the original hinges for the engine lid for your bus? Cheers dude Sent from my YAL-L41 using Tapatalk
They’re not “the” originals but they’re the same original early style that ours came with. I adapted a new engine lid to work with the early style hinge instead of the later hook style. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hi Can you tell me when you spot welded the top of the valance panel did you do it from the outside or from the engine bay ? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Assuming you’re referring to the lower valance that you can see welded in this pic? I did mine from the outside, but it’s neater if done from the inside. I changed my approach from the hinge panel and did that from the inside for the bottom of the panel (you can see the holes drilled in this pic). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If you can avoid plug welding in the seal channel it makes it a whole lot easier to clean up the welds. If you actually have a spot welder, this is a great place to use it - no weld grinding.
Going to have a go of changing mine at the weekend only have a mig so will be plug welding Was just worried how to clean the welds in the seal channel Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
