Well, we didn't go to Camperjam or the coast this weekend - we went to Elvaston Steam Rally. Not heard of it before, but got an email with an early bird booking offer through the UK campsite website. £32 for the van, us two and 3 nights camping (we only did two) and entry to the show on Saturday and Sunday. It was brilliant!! Loads to see - lots of old vehicles and traction engines. An old fashioned fairground and entertainment in the evening (though we didn’t partake as we’d completely kn@ckered ourselves walking round in the sunshine!). I’d thoroughly recommend it, and would happily go again, though it clashes with Camperjam and a load of other things. Obviously it was made even better by the lovely weather. It was held at Elvaston Castle, about 5 miles south of Derby, and there’s also a country park to wander round, which we did today (it was good to get under the shade of some trees!). I took a gazillion photos, so have condensed them into this: There were a few VWs. The splittie, poo-bus and beetle were all in the show; the others were just encountered around the campsite and showground (the red late bay belongs to Pru - very nice to meet you ) There was a grand display of old cars: With lots of shiny bits: Big traction engines: Little traction engines: Old lorries which poptop2 might like… (oh, and there’s a big red beaver in the middle…) Old caravans, which 72wilma and bernjb56 might like … There were a few of these: And …JCBs dancing to the theme from Fame …!!! ‘Twas a great weekend
With SWMBO and our daughter at a gymnastics tournament me & the dog went for a mouch around on Sunday as it is only 5 miles from home. As usual it was a great day out but as the mutt decided to play dead in any bit of shade he could find we had to come home after an hour and a half, but would thoroughly recommend it. Simon
Well-serviced loos and showers, camping on the flat with plenty of space, chilled-out marshalls, no troll in a T5 running a generator on Sunday morning, and all for £32 for the two of us. Yeah, you're right; it was certainly no camperjam...
Looks great ,my type of show ,a bit of everything. Trubble is i remember alot of them cars and lorrys too well
mmmmm shiny hubcaps and old caravans.... all I need is a few piccies of old Massey Fergusons and I'll pop
Sorry - there were old tractors as well, but didn't take any photos...ah well, it avoided making a popp-y mess of you, then
What!!! Disgusting, we demand photos of old tractors!! I'll give you partial forgiveness because you do have photos of Traction Engines, Steam Road Rollers & steam powered fairground equipment
Even better... TWO tractors, a traction engine, a big wood saw and an old bloke finishing a mug of tea: Don't ever say I don't treat you.
