Electrics...flashing bits.

  1. Sorry this is a bit confusing but it's hurting my head figuring it out so difficult to explain!!

Hazrd switch and indicators just put instrument indicator light on and nothing else... no indicator lights no flashing.

Having trouble figuring this out to find out what's not working...

On the relay it has three pins 31, 49a and z ..

    the 31 (brown)is earth easy..

49a ( blue to indicator , and blue and red to instrument light)is shown as output in various places so guess this feeds the lights via a indicator switch to send to chosen one or on via the black with white and green tracers back to hazard switch and onto both..

Which leaves x as being input (white) but that goes off to hazard switch not to fuse box?

So should the white x's on relay and hazard switch always be live.. fed from the red wire on pin 30 on the hazard switch via red wire to fuse 8?

Hoping if no volts at x then hazard switch faulty if volts are there then relay is faulty or do I need to test indicator switch too?

Just the side lights blowing fuse 2 (think that's got a short) and constant sounding horn ( earthing too early in circuit?) to fix then for MOT. I'll worry about heater fans and internal light later..

  2. Side lights...connection to sidelight bulb holder the wrong way round.

The rest...too late. I'm going to bed ;)

  4. Cheers @snotty that sorted that one ...can't figure how that works though surely it can go through a bulb either way?

A new flasher unit fitted fixed the indicator/hazard issue... after moving it from fusebox where connections didn't seem to quite make it...

  5. The bulbholders are a bit of a crappy design. You can connect the leads either way round, but one side of the bulbholder is grounded to the headlamp and chassis. This isn't obvious. If you get the connections the wrong way round, this puts a dead short across the sidelight feed, which pops the fuse. Had me fooled the first time I stuck mine back in.

  6. What's the point of the earth lead / terminal then if it grounds through the headlamp..stooping design.. This electrics thing is all witchcraft and magic.. don't trust it.

  7. Gah. Easy peasy. Look at the wiring loom of a modern car  There's hardly any wiring in a Bay by comparison.
