Electrical coil? Discuss...

  1. My van has been running really well, and as it has the 2l engine I've always felt fairly smug on up-hill sections. On the flat no dramas at all, but recently on hills its been struggling a bit. All the ancillaries have been changed within the last 12 months with good quality parts apart from the coil, which I inherited with the van 6 years ago (so goodness knows how old it really is). So, my question is could an aging coil affect up-hill performance?

No it would tend to affect your engine more of the time.

You have sone other aging effect such as perished rubber hoses typical of an aging Type 4 .

A year is long enough for some modern "good quality" rubber components to begin to fail.

Have you checked your tappets recently

  4. Yeah tappets checked when push rod tubes were sorted out a few weeks back. Good shout on the hoses I'll start there...

For the relatively modest cost stick a new coil on, then you'll know
