Does anybody know roughly when this type of 240v cable stopped being used I'm trying to date a standard lamp I've recently picked up Don't worry I'm rewriting it with modern repro cable
Don't. It's awful stuff that degrades over time. You can get look-a-like cord that has modern stuff in.
When did the colour codes change? Rubber insulation isn't all that bad otherwise I'd be swamped with kids
they still make cotton braded cable so difficult to tell the age by cable type I'd say its probably 60's
The last one I saw with the old colours in braided flex was on a kettle I bought when we got married in 1970
2004 was when black and red was replaced with brown and blue, however brown and blue has been used in flexible cables for some time
if you want to retain the period look you could try this http://www.industville.co.uk/produc...nt=395594661&gclid=CLfj86fPjswCFeop0wodfhkD1A
I've gone for an older looking twisted cotton over braided cable This is the lamp Maybe @Barneyrubble will like this one
